Every quarter, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) makes changes to Old Age Security (OAS) benefits, including its additional payments. As the first quarter of this year progresses, seniors are expecting to receive a $1,900 OAS payment this month. However, according to the official update released by the CRA, there has been no increase in Old Age Security payments for the first quarter of this year. This means that this expected increase is not completely reliable. But if we add up the amount of existing benefits, seniors may receive about $1,900 this month.

$1,900 OAS Payments For Eligible Retirees Coming This Month

This $1,900 OAS payment is a combined form of different benefits. Those who are eligible for both OAS and GIS (Guaranteed Income Supplement) can receive around $1,900 every month in the first quarter of this year. OAS benefits (for seniors over 65 years of age) = $800.44 per month GIS benefits (for seniors who live alone or whose spouse does not receive any pension or allowance) = $1,086.88 per month If a senior citizen is eligible for both these benefits, he or she can receive a combined $1,887.32.

The $1,900 Payment is the combined benefit and for this the two programs eligibility rules need to be passed:

OAS eligibility:

• The person must be 65 years of age or older.
• Have resided in Canada for at least 10 years (after turning 18).
• Annual income must be less than $1,54,196.

GIS Eligibility:

• You must be eligible for OAS benefits to receive GIS.
• GIS is paid to seniors who live alone or whose spouse does not receive a pension or allowance.
• Seniors living alone must have an annual income of less than $22,056.
• Married seniors (whose spouse does not receive OAS or an allowance) must have a combined annual income of less than $52,848.

Because this is a combined payment of $1,900 OAS and GIS, the payment will be made on the same date as both benefits. The first quarter $1,900 payment will only be paid to seniors who are eligible for both benefits. After the second quarter, the CRA will adjust the benefit amount again.

This payment is credible if it is seen as a combined benefit of OAS and GIS. Seniors who are eligible to receive both OAS and GIS can get this amount combined. Adding OAS $800.44 per month and GIS $1,086.88 per month works out to be close to $1,900.
